Adopted

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. – 1 John 3:1a

Can you believe that?  We should be called children of God.  Yes, Jesus is the “only begotten” Son of God, but because of Him, we are all called children of God.  We’ve been adopted, and it’s to our great benefit.

Yes, we were born sinners.  We deserved deserve death.  God rescued us from that.  Not because we are so great and worthy of His love – we’re not.  But because He is so loving, we are inevitably helped by Who He Is.

I love how John ends this first line of chapter 3 (Yes, I know the Apostle didn’t originally write his letter in chapters…)  “and so we are.” We’re not just called “children of God.”  It’s not just some title that He gives His adopted kids.  It is our identity.  We ARE children of God.

Ponder that for a minute.

The Creator of the Universe is your Father, Papa, Tata, Daddy.  When your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, it’s not like some bouncer’s *list*  – it’s a certificate of adoption; a new birth certificate.

You are not an orphan.  You are not unloved.  You are not alone.

This is the Love our Father gives us – not just calling us His, but making us His.  He has given us a new name and a new life.

Now live.
