I’m not a good dad. Seriously, the Bible even says so:
Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! Matt. 7:9-11, Emphasis mine.
Jesus is speaking in the Sermon on the Mount and He plainly says that we are evil, even when we are parenting our kids well. It’s right there in
black red and white. Since I’m evil, I don’t deserve to have any kids. But God gave me mercy – literally and metaphorically.
1 year ago today, I became a father twice-over. I did nothing to deserve Mercy. She is sweet, smart, stubborn, and snuggly. She really is an undeserved gift. That’s why she’s named Mercy
To celebrate my baby girl’s first year of life, here’s a little slideshow my wife put together:
Happy 1st birthday, baby girl. I hope you can put up with your evil dad for the rest of your life 😉
