Wednesday Word: Isolation

Mark 1:35 ESV – And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.

I love reading this verse.  Here is Jesus, the King of the World, and He takes a minute to go out alone and spend time with God.  He isolates Himself, temporarily, in order to realign His priorities.  Of course, we could jump into a theological discussion about whether or not His priorities could even be off, but that’s beside the point here.

If we ought to model our lives after Jesus, then this is a prime example of something I struggle with.  I wish I had more discipline here.  I’m not super famous like Jesus was, but I should still take some time in the early morning to focus on the Most Important Thing.  If I don’t do this, how can I expect the rest of my day to be properly aligned?

Am I crazy?  Do you think that this early-morning stuff is important, or does the time of day not really matter?  Are you an early riser, or is this a part of Jesus’ life that’s hard to imitate?

I don't think that the time of day matters. It's more about setting aside time. That being said, I think most people will find the morning easiest because the distractions of the day typically haven't hit yet.
